Your expedition begins with an overnight stay in the energetic city of Buenos Aires. This seductive city, stretches south-to-north along the Rio de la Plata and has been the gateway to Argentina for many years. Porteños, as the multinational people of Buenos Aires are known, possess an elaborate and rich cultural identity and value their European heritage highly. The Italian and German names outnumber the Spanish, and the lifestyle and architecture are decidedly more European than any other cities in South America. One of the world's finest opera houses, the Teatro Colon, flourishes here on the plains alongside the river. Porteños are intensely involved in the life and culture of their city, and they will gladly share the secrets of Buenos Aires if you lend an ear.
Transfer from your hotel to Buenos Aires Airport for an early morning flight to Ushuaia and start your journey with a welcome gathering.
Your ship sets sail across the famed Drake Passage, the Expedition Team begins their lecture series on history, biology, the great explorers and more. Take time to enjoy all of the ship's amenities, or meet your fellow travellers, follow the on board lecture series, enjoy the fresh air out on deck or simply relax in the panorama lounge as the ship heads south. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife from the deck.
Discover the frozen beauty and breathtaking, pristine nature at the far end of the Earth. Your experienced captain and the Expedition Team will make the most of the conditions to create a programme of unforgettable encounters for you. Go out on landings, launch kayaks, enjoy ice-cruising and scout for whales, seals, birds, penguins and more. See the Antarctic Landings page for details of where you might visit. Of course, the crew take special care to protect and never disturb the amazing wildlife that thrive on the ice.
Say goodbye to white continent and set course back to civilisation through the Drake Passage. Spend the day recapping your experiences, having fun in the Science Centre or just relaxing on board. During the time at sea, enjoy the fresh air out on deck as you watch out for a wandering albatross or a surfacing whale or simply relax in the panorama lounge.
After disembarkation in Ushuaia, your flight to Buenos Aires brings your adventure to an end. You can extend your voyage with an exciting Post-programme from Buenos Aires.
Please note: The map and the itinerary above describe the planned cruise. Weather and ice conditions will determine your final itinerary.
